Menu Management – Permissions
Permissions
The Permissions section controls who can interact with the content, who can publish different types of media, and how accessible your community is to members and visitors. These settings help you shape the level of openness, safety, and engagement within your community.
Permissions Overview
Permissions determine who can view and engage with your run.events Smart Hub community.
Require sign‑in to view
When enabled, the entire community is hidden from visitors who aren’t logged in. Ideal for private or members‑only environments such as associations or closed groups.
Anonymous browsing
Allows visitors who aren’t signed in to read community content. Useful when you want your discussions or posts to be publicly visible.
Require sign‑in to watch video
Even if anonymous browsing is allowed, users must sign in to watch videos or join webinars. This is helpful when you want your content to be publicly discoverable but restrict access to media or live sessions.
Interaction Permissions
These settings determine how users can participate socially inside your community.
Interaction Enabled
Enables or disables all social features.
- When enabled: Users can like posts, comment, and engage with content.
- When disabled: The community becomes read-only — no posts, comments, or reactions are allowed.
Who Can Write Posts
Controls who are allowed to create new posts.
- Members Can Write Posts
- All registered community members can publish posts.
- Contributors automatically inherit this permission.
- Contributors Can Write Posts
- Only users with the Contributor role can publish posts.
- Members cannot create posts unless explicitly enabled.
Use case: If you want a more curated feed, allow only Contributors to post. If you want an open, social community, allow Members to post.
Who Can Post Images
Controls who can upload images in posts.
- Members Can Post Images
- All members can attach images to their posts.
- Contributors Can Post Images
- Only Contributors can upload images.
- Automatically enabled if Members are allowed to post images.
Use case: Restricting image uploads to Contributors helps prevent spam or inappropriate content.
Who Can Post Articles
Controls who can publish long‑form content.
- Members Can Post Articles
- Members can create article style content.
- Contributors Can Post Articles (default)
- Only Contributors can publish articles.
Use case: Articles often represent official or curated content, so many communities keep this limited to Contributors.
Who Can Post Videos
Controls who can upload video content.
- Members Can Post Videos
- Members can upload videos directly.
- Contributors Can Post Videos (default)
- Only Contributors can upload videos.
Use case: Video uploads can be resource heavy and require moderation, so many communities restrict this to Contributors.

Access Permissions
These settings determine who can view your community and how content is accessed.
Anonymous Can Browse
- Enabled: Anyone can browse community content without signing in.
- Disabled: Only logged in users can view content.
Use case: Enable this for public communities; disable it for private or member only spaces.
Require Sign In to Watch Videos
- Enabled: Users must be logged in to watch videos.
- Disabled: Videos are publicly viewable.
Use case: Useful when video content is exclusive or restricted to registered members.
Pass Query Parameters
Allows query parameters to be passed through community URLs.
What this means: If a user arrives with a URL like ?ref=campaign123, the parameter is preserved. This is useful for:
- Marketing tracking
- Deep linking
- Integrations with external systems

Run.events Smart Hub Management Access
Can someone manage run.events Smart Hub without access to the run.events organiser dashboard?
Yes. The community administration panel is separate from the main run.events organiser dashboard.
Anyone assigned the Administrator role within the community can manage:
- Permissions
- Content
- Moderation
- Settings —without needing organiser portal access.
This allows you to delegate community management safely.
